Saturday is Studio Day - Oil Study - Still Life With Peppers

Image
Ok, so I haven't cooked them yet! Probably won't get to at this point. They would have been great eating I'm sure. And today is Studio Saturday, I'm kind of giving you a sneak peek into ONE of my studio paintings I'm working on in the photo here along with today's painting. Which when it dries in a couple of days I will ad a scan of it here on this post. When I mentioned one of my studio works, I probably have 7-8 going at the moment! And when I say studio painting, I'm just referring to larger works than the ones I post here usually ( try to ) every day. You may have noticed I love to use the term study in my titles sometimes & they ARE studies, but then again isn't every painting in a WAY!  But even though it may not look it this is a finished piece. Kind of a style that I adopt at times in my work, having that unfinished look to it, thanks Cezanne! One of my favorite painters by the way. Oh and another thing on this one I was excuse the pun brus...

Impression - Flower Bouquet

Image
Ok, so I have gone a bit more abstract on this painting.  I really had fun painting it though! I applied the paint very thickly throughout the entire canvas panel! I would like to hear your thoughts & opinions on this one. Sorry to make this so short to day, but I'm going on about 3 hours worth of sleep if that! I've been up since midnight painting & you probably already noticed the NEW Pay Pal option that's been put into place here... well for the most part anyway LOL. I still have about half of my archives to set up still. Well time to go make another pot of coffee :) Let me know what you think of this one. Oh, and yes, that is the white of the canvas you see in spots!      Thanks for stopping by today! Best wishes! Impressionistic Still Life With Green Cup

Image
Inspiration for this painting came from the color and the shape of the cup handle. I paid very little attention to the back ground & focused primarily on the cup itself. In fact the background is mostly wiped out to the point of having bare visible canvas peeking through! The colors may be slightly different from the way they appear here but not by much. I think it's a pretty solid painting, but I'll leave that decision up to you. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me, either by E-mail or by phone. I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks for dropping by today! I hope you like viewing this painting! Best Wishes! Dana 5" x 7"  Oil on Canvas Panel  2010 N.F.S. E-mail me at danachabino@gmail.com p.s. It just dawned on me, this is my St. Patricks Day Painting :) p.p.s. I've  been dinking with this painting off & on all afternoon. And I think I'm finally satisfied with it. the changes have bee...

Still Life - Three Peppers

Image
I was real inspired to paint these peppers because of there size and colors, they are enormous! I use a scumbling method -  technique quite often in my water color paintings, it's a lot of fun & I think it creates a very unique effect. I'm just glad my friend brought these wonderful peppers home from the store the other day! Now I can go eat them for dinner tonight :) Anyway thanks for stopping by & looking today, I hope that you like this one! I'm also posting the quick sketch that I did of this still life which is also for sale. Feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have. Thanks again! Good morning everyone! Don't know about you all but I think I'm going to be having an all out coffee day today! I've been up since 3 this morning, and didn't get to sleep till 11 last night! I just love going on about 4 hours sleep don't you? Any way not sure if you remember the small oil painting I did a while back or not titled   Dead Yet  ? But this is a larger water color & gouache rendition of that painting based off another one like this one I did years ago &  decided to do it again. So I'll let you all be the judge & jury on this one, while I go put on another pot of coffee!! :)  I do hope you like this painting though, feel free to leave a comment if you wish, or send me an E-mail   with any questions you may have, I'll be up all day LOL. Have a great day & thanks for stopping by! Dana 12" x 9"  Water Color & Gouache   Done on Arches 140Lb. Cold Pressed Paper E-mail me at  danachabino@gmail.com ...

This is what I woke up to this morning! Kind of a wet & dreary day! The sun hadn't even fully come up yet! But I didn't let the weather effect my mood, quite the contrary actually, I'm in a great mood despite what the weather decides to do! I'm just glad I didn't have to actually go outside to paint this scene :)  I just opened up our front living room blinds  & had at it! I hope your day is much brighter than my painting! Even though I am very pleased with the way this one turned out! I usually don't paint these kinds of scenes very often. Any way I hope you like it for it's artistic value :) And may your day be sunny & bright!   Thanks for stopping by & looking today! If you have any questions please feel free to E-mail me & I'll be happy to try and answer them for you. Dana p.s.  I live right on the corner of a very busy street, wasn't much traffic this morning though. LOL. 6" x 6"  2010   Water Colo...

Hope you like todays painting, I really enjoyed doing this one, kinda makes me  wish the weather was like this here today, were getting sleet, and all kinds of fun weather  in Wichita today. This is a rendition & improvisation, of a photo my mother took & gave to me a while back, thanks mom! Again, I hope that you like it & I welcome any  questions or comments that you may have. Impression - Brushes

Image
I had  a lot of fun painting this picture this morning, the trick was not making mud out of it :) But it is sort of a rendition of the water color I painted yesterday. Anyway I hope you like it. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a fantastic day! Water Color Study - Impression - Scrub Brush I SOLD

Image
Wow, I've had a very busy & sometimes trying weekend! I went out & about so to speak, did lot's of sketches & took lot's of photos. That was the good part, the bad part is my computer monitor went out on me & we had to get it replaced, and didn't get that done until yesterday! So this is one of the paintings that I have done recently, even though things happen in life that throw us for a loop sometimes, I've learned to take the good with the bad & stay positive & things have a way of working themselves out usually for the better! I  think, I ruin more brushes with the style that I paint in, I know I ruined at least two painting this one,  I was literally painting with the ferrule of one of my brushes to finish the foreground on this one! I tend to really get into my painting and more often than not I tend to use a literal scrubbing, scraping method, but it was all worth it! Anyway I do apologize for not posting in a few days, doesn't mea...

Impression Waterlilies - Oil on Canvas - Collection The Artist

Image
Yes I'm ready for spring! I'm thinking of doing a small series of water color paintings with waterlilies from past studies I've done, till I can get out and go do some en plein air work, can't wait :) Hope your day goes well & thanks for stopping by! Quick Sketches

Image
I apologize,  I've been having a very rough morning, And I'm trying my best Not to sound negative. But for some reason or another I just can't seem to get anything to come out right :( I've already discarded,--- put far, far aside three different paintings. I suppose everyones entitled to have a bad day every now and again, & I'm thankful that I have way more Good Days than bad ones :) So since I've been up painting since 3 this morning, I decided to post a couple of sketches that a did a couple of days ago, then I think I'll have lunch, and who knows maybe then I'll be able to get something to turn out. Thanks for understanding. I'm Just grateful & thankful that I am able to do what I love and enjoy most everyday!! & that's paint :) Any way about these two sketches one is actually a drawing of our home, & the other is a still life that I did one evening on site at a coffee here in downtown Wichita. Thanks again for bearing with...

Kitchen Things

Image
I'm rarely out of ideas or things to paint. I happened to be sitting at our dinning table this morning drinking my coffee when I looked up at the wall, and thought to myself, & said silently to myself, ok self this is what I'm going to paint today. And so I did! I used pretty much the same palette colors for this painting as I used for the one yesterday , in fact they are the same. The paint was even still fresh so I figured why not. How lucky can a person get? I only had to hunt up one tube of paint and I believe that was Yellow Ocher. The colors that you see here are going to very slightly, than how they look on the actual painting, I didn't alter the scan so, there is not much of a variation. Hope you like it. Thank you for stopping by and looking at my work. If you have any questions please fell free to contact me. I hope you have a great day. The Meat Grinder

Image
If you're like me and have a love for antiques, these may be for you! I've  always thought that antiques were really cool, just wish I had more room, I'd have a house full of them :) Any way I thought that I would paint this old meat grinder that I've had for several years. I'm posting a photo of it below along with a rough sketch I just finished doing of it. I normally don't show many of my sketches but I thought it would give you something to look at while I start on the painting, which should hopefully be done in a few hours from now, So you will have to check back to see the finished painting, but in the meantime here is my drawing to give you some idea as to what's to come. And if by chance you happen to like my sketch I'm willing to part with it for only $17 and that includes shipping in the U.S. And if you'd like to see some of my other sketches, E-mail me and I'll be happy to E-mail some back to you. Thanks for stopping by & Please c...

Impression - Hay Bales

Image
5"x7"          2010           Oil on Canvas Panel Yes, I was born and raised in Kansas, and yes I still live here, but no I'm NOT a farm boy! Far from it, not that I have anything against farmers or anything like that, I'm just a simple city person. In fact I love farms and farm related scenes! Especially painted ones. Speaking of paintings, I am pretty pleased with the way this one turned out. I actually used a brush for the whole thing, no palette knife this time, but the paint is laid on pretty thickly in places, especially on the hay bales themselves. I love creating lots of texture in my paintings! I think it adds for a much more dramatic effect. Any way I hope that you like it. Please feel free to comment on it or E-mail me if you have any questions. Thanks for taking the time to read this and view my paintings, I hope you'll make return visits to my blog here. ...

Hot & Cold

5"x7"        2010                                                     Oil on Canvas Panel         I know I'm a little later than normal getting this one posted, but as they say better late than never. Well I think some said it any way and if not I just did :) Not too sure where we got these peppers from but I decided to paint them, I really like the contrast in colors & the shadows and  the combination between the color of the peppers and the color of the cast shadows, I thought made for an interesting painting. This really was a fun little painting to do, I hope that you all like it, any comments good or bad are appreciated, s...

Impression - Winter Tree

Image
7"x5"         2010                                         Oil on Canvas Panel Good morning every one ! Personally I love snow, but I hate winter, or at least the coldness part any way! We got quite a few inches of snow here a couple of days ago here in Kansas, YAY! So I decided I would do a winter painting, and this is it! I think there is probably more paint on this painting than there is snow on the ground here by comparison, LOL. Or real close to it any way! But seriously there is a LOT of paint on this one, it could very likely take a little longer than a week to be fully dry. I did this one in mostly all palette knife & the colors will differ a bit on the original compared to how you see it here. I would say that it is very impressionistic verging a little towards being abstract, which by the way this is as close to abstract painting as I get. An...
