Winter Remnant 2010

Image
Sorry about yesterday, but I've been a bit under the weather :(  In fact I'm still not feeling well today & had to literally force myself to paint! Anyway I hope you are having a wonderful week :) This is a painting that I derived from a photo I took a couple of weeks back, when we still had a little snow left on the ground in places. And I couldn't resist taking this picture of this boy out playing in the remains of the snow :) What I assume to be what was left of a snowman! But what really got me was the size of the snow ball in comparison to the kid playing with it! It was darn near as big as he was! I  also really liked the yellow in his cap & the toy car in the background! Now of course this painting is for sale, But I think it only fair of me to offer this to his parents first! But you get first look at it :) It's raining here today & I'm still sick, but I should be able to hopefully meet with them tomorrow or the day after. And then if they dec

Abstract Expressionism - Water Color & Gouache - Untitled II

I am almost PETRIFIED to POST THIS PAINTING! Actually there is no almost to it! I'm literally scared to death! I may even loose a few followers over this one :(  Truly Hope Not! YOU ALL mean the WORLD to me! No Guts No Glory Right? This one is totally & completely out of my natural realm! Todays painting differs quite a bit from the one that SOLD yesterday! :) So I thought I would try a similar approach with today's painting. First let me please start off by saying that  I had absolutely NO forethought or idea in mind when I started this painting as to what the finished painting would look like! That's kind of where the luck factor comes into play! This painting literally took on a shape & life all of its own! The background was put in with a VERY light under wash of Cadmium Yellow Medium, so the the paper is not  white, even though it kind of has that appearance! Now for the red shapes that you see are like yesterdays painting in that I used a pouring method, NO

This is kind a first time experiment for me  with this style & technique in this particular media! I painted this picture using a pouring method & was happy with the colors & designs it created! So I'm posting it here for you to critique! Please don't  tell me DON'T quit my day job. Oh wait, this is my day job lol. :) Any I hope it creates some kind of emotional response, in which case it has succeeded in doing its job! What do  you think?   Thanks to all of you who have been joining this blog & commenting on my work! I wish everyone well. Hope you'll keep stopping by! Dana p.s. Still Life - Vase With Faux Flowers

Image
Hi everyone! Let me first start off by saying that I'm a terrible photographer! My only aspiration in life is to hopefully become a decent painter! Anyway this photo does not do this painting any justice what so ever! This one was I'd say about 90%  done with a palette knife! One of my life long favorite methods to use in creating a painting! You can create such amazing textures & color somethings!  LOL. Sorry I'm still waking up :)  And if I may, a short story on the process of this picture, I started with the intention of doing the whole thing with brushes, but ended up creating quite a PRETTY LARGE area of MUD where the flowers were suppose to be! So I ended up scraping out everything but the vase itself! The original back ground was suppose to have a scrub out look to it & luckily I was able to keep that in the final picture! And like I said the photo of this one,  please excuse my language, SUCKS! I am going to try & get a better one later. Any way thank

First Glimpse of Spring

Image
This is one of my studio paintings that I finally finished last night! Outside of the fact that I am past ready for spring to hurry up & get here! I got my inspiration for this painting believe it or not from looking down at the ground in my front yard :) This painting was done on a studio wrapped canvas, meaning no staples on the sides of the stretcher bars, and they are painted as well so this is actually ready to hang on your wall! No need to frame it! The Impasto on this piece is really quite remarkable! There is a TON of paint on this picture! Trying to remain humble , I really do like this painting! Hopefully you will like it as well! I have found it very comforting & relaxing to look at, what are your feelings towards this one?    It will be a few days before it is dry, but don't let that stop you from going ahead and reserving it for your own collection!   Thanks so much to all of you who have been joining my blog lately! And thanks for all of the wonderful &
